Pharmacy Intern - Centralized Refill Center

Location:

UCHlth 2450 Peoria Admin Services

Position Overview:

This position is within the Centralized Refill Center (CRC) of Medication Access and Renewal Center (MARC) and reports to the CRC Pharmacy Manager. The team is responsible for following a standardized protocol approved by the UCHealth P&T Committee to ensure appropriate monitoring and authorization of medications for UCHealth primary care and specialty clinics.  The CRC team includes Pharmacy Technicians, Medication Access Specialists (MAS), Clinical Nurses and Clinical Pharmacists.  They process over 78,000 refill requests per month.  CRC team members establish collaborative working relationships with clinic staff, providers, and patients across the UCHealth system.  Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, contacting patients and pharmacies for clarification of refill requests, transcribing details from faxes and phone messages into the electronic medical record and advocating for utilization of UCHealth pharmacies. 


Work Schedule: PRN, No guaranteed days or hours, Flex


Responsibilities:

  • Accurately document pertinent patient information related to medication, labs, and office visits in the chart.
  • Redirect refills for controlled substances to clinics and providers.   
  • Answer phone calls from patients and pharmacies.  
  • Call patients regarding the status of their refill and verify information related to the refill. 
  • Input information from fax refill requests into patients’ chart. 
  • Accurately determine which medication authorizations can be completed by MAS, clinical staff, and those that need to be deferred to the clinic/provider for review.
  • Authorize and/or prepare medication refill requests in Epic according to the CRC Refill Protocol. 
  • Identify and prioritize urgent refill requests and take the necessary steps to complete those requests in an accurate and efficient manner.  
  • Stay current with and appropriately utilize CRC resources.
  • Communicate with providers, clinic staff, patients, and CRC team members in a clear and professional manner over the phone and in writing.  
  • Position requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and capable of self-directing to different tasks based on team priorities.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Required Education: Enrolled in an accredited school of pharmacy and in good standing.
  • Required Licensure/Certification: State Intern licensure.

Preferred:

  • Experience working in Epic.
  • Proficiency in using all Microsoft Programs (Outlook, Teams, Word, etc.).
  • Ability to quickly learn new computer programs. 


The pay range for this position is: $19.67 - $25.57 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
