Summary: Assists Mohs surgeon or dermatopathologist with extraction of tissue during microscopically controlled excision of skin cancers. Prepares and processes tissue sections for microscopic viewing. Provides care to patients while under supervision of provider or nurse.

Work Schedule: PRN Days

** PRN Differential added to the base rate available **

Responsibilities:
Prepares tissue sections for examination by using complex techniques and procedures such as: embedding, precise positioning, cutting minute pieces of frozen tissue and serial sections.

Performs work for microscopic differentiation and complex processes such as alteration and standardization of chemical solutions and staining reaction control to achieve precise results. Cuts and stains frozen sections for rapid diagnosis during surgery. Operates and maintains cryostat machine.

Prepares slides for filing and organizes slide storage. Monitors and stocks supplies. Cleans and restocks rooms.

Operates steam autoclave. Prepares sterile surgical trays. Places patients in rooms and ensures correct supplies are available.

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Required Education: High School diploma or GED. Completion of Medical Assistant program through an accredited school or program that meets the criteria of a medical assistant program, such as a military-prepared corpsman or medic.
  • Required Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.
  • Minimum Experience: None Required. Preferred: 1 year of experience in med-surg. 1 year of experience as a Mohs Tech or Histotech.
  • BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)


The pay range for this position is: $20.87 - $27.13 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
