Summary:
Provides nursing leadership for a specific shift and unit/area.
Surgical Specialties unit is comprised of a total of 36 inpatient beds. This dynamic, highly engaged unit services patients requiring hospitalization before and/or after a wide variety of surgical procedures, as well as post trauma. We work alongside world class surgeons, in a level I trauma center to provide expert care to 7 different surgical lines of service including trauma surgical oncology, urology, bariatrics, endocrine, colorectal, and general surgery. On the Surgical Specialties unit, we believe that collaboration is key; allowing staff such as nurses, aides, physicians, and case management to work together as a successful and thriving team. Populations Typically Served: Complex surgical patients admitted from the Perioperative setting, Emergency Department, Ambulatory Clinics, or from Progressive of Intensive Care Units

Responsibilities:
Supervises and mentors staff during assigned shift. Determines staffing level and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, and patient acuity.
Provides direct patient care as needed. Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving. May take patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care, including formal evaluation, and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes. Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manages through established channels.
Performs role-specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers. Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is: $36.47 - $56.52 / hour plus $5/hour night shift differential. In additional to base pay and differential, full time night shift RNs are eligible to participate in UCHealth's night shift incentive pay program upon completion of orientation. Base pay is dependent on applicant's relevant years of experience.
