Manager of Pharmacy Quality and Medication Use Systems

Summary:

The Manager of Pharmacy Quality and Medication Use Systems has direct oversight and responsibility for medication safety, pharmacy quality, and medication formulary management. This position is designed to support delivery of reliable, high quality medication management and safe medication use at the University of Colorado Hospital. This individual also supports the system and local Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committees. The Manager supervises a team of pharmacists, nurses, and support staff. This individual works in close collaboration with members of the pharmacy and quality leadership teams to meet departmental goals aligned with organization’s strategic initiatives. The Manager must exemplify excellent communication skills and expertise in project management, as responsibilities will require development of strong working relationships with interdisciplinary departments and providers.

Work Schedule: Full Time, 80 hours/pay period, Days

Responsibilities:

  • Continuously evaluates the hospital’s medication management systems for potential safety enhancements; benchmarks the hospital’s systems to medication safety best practices established by entities such as the Institute of Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), The Joint Commission (TJC), and others. Takes appropriate action when gaps are identified.
  • Responsible for tracking, monitoring, and identification of adverse drug events (ADEs) as well as development of processes, technology, and educational solutions to minimize and mitigate the incidence of preventable and non-preventable ADEs.
  • Supports local and system Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committees and associated subcommittees.
  • Monitors medication usage and ensures appropriate utilization of formulary and non-formulary agents.
  • Utilizes data and dashboards to track quality metrics that align with organizational and departmental strategies and goals.
  • Represents the pharmacy department on key programs and committees, including acting as a liaison, recommending policies and procedures, reviewing drug and supply requirements for these programs, and presenting/analyzing data as needed.
  • Directs clinical and operational tasks as it relates to Alaris infusion pumps, including oversight of the drug library updates as well as staff education.
  • Supports and manages the rollout and communication of new initiatives, external collaborations, and special projects within all areas of responsibilities.
  • Supports leadership team to help ensure safe and consistent performance of medication use systems across the University of Colorado Hospital.
  • Manages staff relations including performance management, staff satisfaction, and conflict management.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Required Education: Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited school of pharmacy
  • Required Licensure/Certification: Colorado state licensure as a pharmacist
  • Minimum Experience: 3 years post-graduate related hospital or quality pharmacy experience

The pay range for this position is: $63.32 - $101.31 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
