Athletic Training Resident Position

Summary: UCHealth in metro Denver offers a twelve-month athletic training residency program that provides a post-professional education experience with a clinical and didactic focus in the specialty of orthopedics. Athletic trainers work with nationally recognized physicians and core faculty to complete a structured curriculum involving hands-on and scholarly opportunities. The comprehensive nature of this program builds on an existing foundation of athletic training knowledge to develop clinicians with enhanced investigative and evaluation skills. Individuals can expect to not only be challenged academically, but also mature professionally over the course of the residency.

Work Schedule: Full Time Days


Complete all planned resident clinic and didactic educational curriculum, participate in program development

Directly assist in treating patients under the direction of the supervising physician within the orthopedic clinical setting

Gain proficiency in clinic specific tasks, including but not limited to, ordering diagnostic studies, placing appropriate referrals, set-up for injections/procedures (sterile and non-sterile), documentation of patient interactions, and appropriate management of patient questions and requests under the direction of the supervising physician and athletic trainer preceptor

Prepare and present case studies of interest at a minimum of 4 per year


Scope of job requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to collaborate within a team while at times functioning autonomously. Environment is fast-paced, demands strong interpersonal communication, and flexibility for schedule changes and travel to multiple facilities.


Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree. Preferred: Master’s degree.

Required Licensure/Certification: Certification by the Board of Certification for Athletic Trainers. Licensed with the State of Colorado as an Athletic Trainer. Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider.

Minimum Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred.

BLS through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer with card in-hand before start date. BLS or CPR card must be good through sixty days of hire. All life support certification cards must be issued by either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (American Red Cross for the Professional Rescuer is only good upon hire and all renewals will need to be through an American Heart Association sanctioned course.)

The pay range for this position is: $21.49 - $27.94 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience. UCHealth offers a Five Year Incentive Bonus to recognize employee’s contributions to our success in quality, patient experience, organizational growth, financial goals, and tenure with UCHealth. The bonus accumulates annually each October and is paid out in October following completion of five years’ employment.
