Summary:
Under direct supervision by certified Histotechnologist, trains to provide high quality routine Hematoxylin and Eosin, immunohistochemically and histochemically stained slides to pathologist for routine or complex diagnosis and prognostic markers.
Work Schedule: Full Time Days
Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision by certified histotechnologist, trains to embed and section processed tissue sections to produce slides for diagnosis, section frozen tissue to produce slides for quick diagnosis during surgical procedures.
Learns histology practice theory and trains to perform special staining techniques for interstitial elements of tissue sections to include micro-organisms and various cellular components including antigens and enzymes for complex diagnosis and prognostic markers.
Maintains immediate work area and trains on equipment used for embedding, sectioning, and staining specimens. Trains to maintain and troubleshoot processing equipment.
Demonstrates competency and passing scores in all trained areas. At the end of the full-time year of training, must take appropriate ASCP certification exam for HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP).
Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.
Requirements:
The pay range for this position is: $19.67 - $25.57 / hour. Pay is dependent on applicant's relevant experience.
