The Chief Medical Physicist is a key member of the regional oncology service line leadership team and will have technical and safety oversight of the radiation oncology department.

The radiation oncology staff work as a tightly knit, progressive and fast paced interdisciplinary team. The department is APEX accredited. Summary:

Provides design optimization, technical evaluation, and delivery of treatment plans. Implements the quality management program using external beam radiotherapy equipment and therapeutic radioisotopes. Reviews procedures followed by Radiation Therapy staff. Ensures radiation protection of patients and staff.

Work Schedule: 1.0/80hrs pp - Full Time - Days - Exempt

Responsibilities:

  • Directs work flow of the department. Assists with operating budget and personnel activities, including hiring and separations, grievances and discipline. Assists with performance reviews; provides feedback and coaching.
  • Calibrates therapy equipment to provide accurate radiation dose delivery. Directs the determination of radiation dose distributions. Consults with Radiation Oncologists concerning patient doses and optimization of treatment plans.
  • Directs testing of new equipment and devices. Measures performance levels of imaging equipment. Coordinates equipment maintenance and repair. Directs the design and construction of patient treatment devices (e.g. blocks, compensators, molds, etc.).
  • Directs the radiation safety program. Provides consultation for personnel radiation exposure. Provides continuing education

Within scope of job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Requirements:

    Essential:
    * Certified Radiation Oncology Physics

  • Other information:
    Minimum Required Education: Master's or Doctoral degree in Radiological Physics, Physics, or related discipline. 
  •  Required Licensure/Certification: Certification by either the American Board of Radiology in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics, the American Board of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology Physics, or the Canadian College of Physicists in Medicine in Radiation Oncology Physics and compliance with the ACR Standard for Continuing Medical Education. 
  • Minimum Experience:7 years of post-degree clinical experience OR completion of a post-degree clinical medical physics residency program under the
    preceptorship of a physicist certified by the ABR (American Board of Radiology) in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or Radiological Physics. 
  •  Preferred:Supervisory experience. Prior experience as a Chief Medical Physicist.Knowledge of radiation oncology physics, medical radiation safety and pertinent regulations. Knowledge of computers and their applications in treatment planning, record and verify, and image management. Experience with Aria, Eclipse and BrainLab treatment planning required with prior 3D, IMRT, SRS/SBRT, HDR, and LDR, and IVB experience or knowledge required.

The pay range for this position is: $81.51 - $122.26 / hour.
