Summary of Program:
The City of Aurora believes in providing the right resources at the right time to citizens in need, especially for those in crisis. The City of Aurora and the Aurora Police Department partner with UCHealth and Falck Rocky Mountain to provide three different crisis intervention programs to ensure that Aurora citizens have access to the most appropriate resource regardless of their situation. The civilian-led Aurora Mobile Response Team (AMRT), the Aurora Police Department’s Crisis Response Team (CRT), and the Targeted Violence Prevention (TVP) program operate to provide a continuum of care through direct intervention, individualized crisis case management and resource referrals.
Summary of Role:
CRT is a crisis intervention team that pairs mental health trained (CIT trained) law enforcement officers with mental health professionals and is housed in the Aurora Police Department’s Special Operations Bureau. CRT units respond to patrol calls for service and prioritize calls for service where the primary concern is mental health. This position will be assigned a patrol officer to ride in the patrol car with for 40 hours a week. CRT clinicians are expected to respond to 9-1-1 calls for service with their officer counterpart and provide behavioral health screenings, crisis intervention care, emergency mental health hold evaluations/ commitments, and care planning as necessary.
